my friend @onzze and I are combining our mutual obsession with 80s classic rock bands with our love for lesbians, so we're creating a fictional band full of them!!!

In 1980, Paul McCartney released "Coming Up," a track that pulsed with funky innovation and an infectious optimism that still resonates today.
youtube
From the moment its buoyant bassline and playful synths hit the airwaves, it was clear this was no ordinary song. It was a bold departure from McCartney’s Beatles-era sound, a vibrant testament to his ability to reinvent himself while staying true to his knack for crafting melodies that lift the spirit. More than four decades later, "Coming Up" remains a timeless anthem of joy, hope, and unity—a song that feels as fresh now as it did then.
What makes "Coming Up" so enduring is its fearless embrace of the unconventional. Recorded largely in McCartney’s home studio, the track showcases his virtuosity as a multi-instrumentalist and studio craftsman. The funky groove, driven by a propulsive bassline, feels like a conversation between past and future—nodding to the disco and new wave sounds of the late ’70s while anticipating the experimental pop of the ’80s. McCartney’s vocals, reportedly recorded at a lower speed to achieve a slightly higher pitch, add a quirky, almost otherworldly charm. This wasn’t just a song; it was a sonic playground where McCartney played every role, from bassist to saxophonist to madcap visionary.
Lyrically, "Coming Up" radiates hope and togetherness. Lines like “You want some peace and understanding / So everybody can be free” and “You want a better kind of future / One that everyone can share” speak to a universal longing for connection and progress. The imagery of “coming up like a flower” evokes growth and resilience, a reminder that even in challenging times, beauty and possibility can bloom. It’s no wonder the song struck a chord in 1980, a year marked by global tensions and cultural shifts. Its message of sticking together and staying the course felt like a beacon, a call to keep pushing forward.
The song’s cultural footprint is undeniable. It climbed to number one in Ireland, soundtracked NFL broadcasts, and even caught the ear of John Lennon, who reportedly called it “a good piece of work” and was inspired to return to recording himself. Some have interpreted the lyrics as McCartney’s olive branch to his former bandmate, a plea for reconciliation cloaked in upbeat rhythms. Whether or not that’s true, the song’s ability to spark such speculation speaks to its emotional depth beneath the playful surface.
"Coming Up" is also a masterclass in joy. Its irrepressible energy makes it impossible to sit still—whether it’s the urge to dance, tap a foot, or simply smile. The music video, with McCartney gleefully playing every character in a fictional band, captures this spirit perfectly: a one-man celebration of creativity and fun. It’s the kind of song that can brighten a car ride, soundtrack a summer memory, or pull someone out of a funk. Its versatility—equally at home in a disco or a quiet moment of reflection—gives it a rare, chameleon-like quality.
In today’s fractured world, "Coming Up" feels more relevant than ever. Its call for unity and optimism cuts through cynicism, reminding us that hope is not naive but necessary. McCartney, ever the musical alchemist, took risks with this track, blending genres and defying expectations to create something wholly his own. The result is a song that doesn’t just endure—it uplifts. It’s a reminder that music, at its best, can be a funky, innovative force for good, blooming like a flower to bring us together. So, as McCartney says, “Stick around, we’re nearly there.” Let’s keep coming up.

Sometimes Steven would find himself in a four-way with a girl – he’d be in her vagina, Slash in her mouth and Izzy Stradlin in her ass.
Howard wondered how none of these incidents resulted in children, so Steven laughed that they always pulled out. “Of course! That’s what the face is for!”

Unpopular opinion
if you're gonna be in a fandom that is for bands 40 plus years old yall really need to do research and I'm not talking about basic search but really deep dive in the scene and bands to totally understand them and how far they have come. Especially some of the younger fans that think they know everything cause they read a book or a article. I'm not trying to start anything I'm stating facts, I have seen Fandoms go to absolute hell cause nobody wants to do the research on them. It makes me sad cause as fans no matter how old or young we should come together and be able to talk about things and members without drama and hate cause not everyone is gonna agree and that's ok.
